Jean-uary Challenge 2025
Show us your scrappy sewing skills with Denim.
Pick up denim pieces or use your own to sew creations. Finished pieces can be submitted to Remakery to be showcased in the new Remaker Space starting February 1. Visitors will vote on their favorite upcycled denim piece and winners will receive prizes.
This month we are looking to celebrate the versatility of Denim and showcase local makers who sew with scraps or upcycle with existing textiles. The idea of upcycling has been around for centuries both as in utilitarian forms, necessary to reuse fabrics on hand rather than by new. Or later haute couture fabrics from gowns were used to make them last for decades. Today denim, specifically jeans thrifted from second-hand stores, are used as DIY sewing booms.

As "fast fashion" fills the streets and landfills, home sewists have the unique opportunity to create quality, one-of-a-kind items.
