About the Event

Use a clothes iron and parchment paper to melt plastic bags into a reusable material that can be cut and sewn into different shapes.


Single use plastic bags can be hard to recycle and seem to be everywhere. Bring your plastic to this event to learn how to turn plastic bags into reusable items. Soft plastic bags can be melted and fused with parchment paper and a clothes iron. Once melted, this plastic is like leather and can be sewn or woven into other items. 


Examples of plastic that can be used for this event: grocery bags, bread bags, plastic mailers, bubble wrap. The quick test is: if it is stretchy, it is good for this event, if it crinkles it is not good for fusing. Please ensure all plastic is clean and free of debris.
