About the Event
Single use plastic bags can be hard to recycle and seem to be everywhere. Bring your plastic to this event to learn how to turn plastic bags into reusable items. We will be utilizing 2 techniques to transform plastic bags. First, bags can be cut into strips and used as yarn. We will have all the tools to make plastic bag yarn and show some crochet techniques. Second, plastic bags can be melted and fused with parchment paper and a clothes iron. Once melted, this plastic is like leather and can be sewn or woven into other items.
Examples of plastic that can be used for this event: grocery bags, bread bags, plastic mailers, bubble wrap. The quick test is: if it is stretchy, it is good for this event.
Please insure all plastic is clean and free of debris.
Open to all skill levels. Appropriate for ages that can use sharp scissors or a clothes iron.
